The Journey: Fulfilling 10.8.2018

Close up of businessman in grey suit looking watch.

Yesterday and today I had the same dream: a number. And I believe it was related to a time of my journey yesterday and today. I proudly say that I was fulfilling the time, and thus fulfilling God’s will and my destiny.

Yesterday was a normal working day and I finished work at 1:45pm. After that, I went to a church in Causeway Bay to pray to God. The reason for my prayer yesterday was to give thanks to Him for all His mercy and His love to me. Then I went to Times Square to buy a computer for my wife. The surprising thing was, after I was inside the shop I watched the time: Oops, it was the same time as I had dreamed yesterday: the number.

Then today I went to the same church to pray again. After the prayer, I had a sudden instinct that I had to watch the time because of something that I believe God wanted me to know. And I did it, and the time showed an exact time: xx:yy:00. Little did I know that after dinner would I find that I was fulfilling the time again: the number, when I researched the internet.

After the 19:30pm dinner, I was researching the internet on something I was planning to do next Monday. And soon I discovered about a price of something that I was looking for, and the price showed an exact amount which was like the time I had seen after my prayer: $x:yy. I instantly knew that this was the thing with the price I was looking for and I watched the time again: Oops, it was nearly the same time, the same number that I had dreamt of yesterday and today morning. However, I was one minute late.

Reflecting on my experience today, did I fail to fufill my destiny today by one minute late? Or was it the will that I should be late by one minute? Was there anything I can do better to meet the exact time again? Were there some negative influences that affect my performances and thus making me failing by one minute? Was there an existence of a “Plan B”? If there was a “Plan B”, how would I choose the different options? Should I choose the actions by deciding myself rather than waiting for God’s leading and make the actions only after a thorough analysis of God’s guidance?

These are probably some of the most complex and challenging decisions for us to make in our lives. I hope you all can make the right decisions and thus fulfilling God’s will by wisely following His guidance and make the right and exact decisions.

The Journey: Give All Decision Part One

Donate Word Wall

We all have personal needs and responsibilities. By talking about needs it means that we have to have a job, or ways to find money and income. We have to find a shelter in the form of housing to stay, and need to have adequate education to our siblings and considerations for our retired parents as well. This is probably a normal duty to each one of us, we just have to do it to sustain our lives. The worldly thinking is that not only we need to sustain our lives, we desire to earn and make more money, to satisfy our ego and our fleshly desire. We need to find ways to gain more power and status, that is the norm. And this is wrong, and not a choice we can make. Please read Matthew 6:24

“You cannot serve both God and money”

Again, we have to take a stand: Either God or money. In this way, our main duty to God is to make a living to provide our own necessary needs and then, using our gifts, which are from God, to better use them to fulfill our responsibilities to our society, our church and anyone that we can be of help. Many people may think that, well, I have done my part, I have a decent job, and have enough provisions for my immediate families, go to church regularly, and donate to some charities, what more should I do? Please understand the concept of “gifts”: If you have them, you are required to use them to do good. Again, this is not a choice. I will talk about the parable of the bags of gold in Matthew 25:14-30 tomorrow to further illustrate this point. For the time being, just note the needs that everyone has to earn enough money and the responsibilities that one has to perform.

I was talking to one of my aunties today regarding my “Give all decision” made three days ago, and we had a long talk on this one. Please refer to my previous blog post on this decision: The Journey: Give All Decision 10.5.2018, If I give up all of my belongings, including all my wealth away, how am I supposed to fulfill my daily needs, and further about responsibilities for anyone? You can, by believing this: Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well

You don’t need to worry or be afraid, even if you are temporary jobless or bankrupt, just have faith that when you seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, what you will eat, drink and wear will be given to you. So cheer up, and to those who worry or have doubts of their uncertain future, please don’t worry, God will give you provisions, you just have to have faith and to do what the Bible teaches. And how the Bible teaches us about daily provisions? By praying to God daily. Please see Matthew 6:11-13 on how we should pray, and note that we should ask Him to give us our daily bread:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

I had made a decision of quitting a job with a bright prospect and to give up all my current wealth away, to show God how I love him that much. This is a pure decision, and a 10 seconds one which will make my whole life blessed and happy. Most people will say, well, I am forgoing all my wealth that I had accumulated all my life, will I be happy? My answer is there is a big difference between loving worldly wealth and loving God. Once you are in a loving relationship with God, nothing, and I mean nothing will it matter to you anymore. I am saying this based on my personal experience and I think there are many in this world will claim that the “Love of God” is more important than your wealth. I am asking you to give it a try, try to establish a loving relationship with God, and you will feel the total difference. The important step is to step up on the path that God has planned for you.

Having said this, after I made this decision, I have never a doubt that I can still survive in the future, as long as I seek His kingdom and righteousness and pray regularly, I have complete faith that all will be given to me. I am not worried, because I believe. Once I believe, I will start reading the Bible, follow Jesus’s teaching and humbly walk with God. Having made the sacrifice, I firmly believe I will have a bright prospect and a good future in my road ahead. My needs will be catered, from God, and my gift, which is to write this blog, will be further polished and improved, in the coming days, to faithfully work with God on earth, for spreading the Good news, as my main responsibility. Are you impressed? Read my previous blog post on The Journey: Give All Decision 10.5.2018 and think for yourself. Don’t first think of the returns and costs, and think “purely”, is your choice based on the love of God? Is your relationship with Him bigger than any other considerations?

The Journey: Love or Hate 12.5.2018

Words Love and Hate on contrast background

Having made the “Give it all” decision two days ago, I can proudly say that I am now a person in love, with God. As we have looked into Mark 12:41-44, the widow gave away everything, her only two very small copper coins, to the church. I am not trying to boast her or my generosity, because it was stated in Matthew 6:2-4

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

After all, I am trying to share with you all the great love that we should give to God, and my example is a once in a lifetime sacrificial giving all to God, to show Him how I love Him that much. The majority of the people may say, well, I go to church regularly, read the Bible daily and give to the church or the needy at times, why do I have to go to the extreme and give everything to God? I don’t know whether you should or not, but it is my choice. And mind you, after I make this Bold and Loving choice, I feel the love and become emotional every time I think of this. And this occasion becomes a celebratory moment privately between me and God. You cannot imagine how blessed I am, and how happy I will be, I firmly believe.

Having talked about “The Love”, I now turned to the opposite, “Hate”. Hate is actually a normal human emotion and sometimes you cannot escape it. This morning I went with my family to Megabox to have breakfast, and during all these time I was always in a loving mode, so to speak. The loving mode is a mental state in which I felt happy, grateful, and loving. I enjoyed these times of love and hoped that it would continue throughout the day. Unfortunately, this did not prove to be the case. For some 10 minutes, I had a sudden surge of hatred rising from my heart. I cannot control it, and it destroyed my whole loving mode. And it damaged my spiritual direction as well. See 1 John 2:11

But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

As the Scripture says, if you hate a brother or a sister, you are in the darkness. And the darkness has blinded you and you were walking without spiritual direction. Imagine you have been misled alone, and again, to a forest or a desert, with no one to guide you out, what can you do? Even if you choose a direction and walk along, you might be going nowhere. Having a parent who holds your hand to walk is the same as we humbly walking with God, He will allow you to choose your direction of life, whether it is right or wrong, he will oversee it, and will not stop reminding you when you have chosen the wrong path or direction. His best plan is to lead you to eternal life, by sending Jesus to die for us to forgive our sins and giving you the Bible. When you read the Bible, not only will you change your way of life, but you will know the direction of life which will lead you to God. Hating someone will put yourself in a situation that you will waste your time walking along the wrong path, like alone in a desert or forest, and leads you nowhere. You will be walking the bright path when you are in love, or the dark path when you have hate. The choice is yours, “Love or Hate”?

Can you do anything, sacrificing everything, just for Love? Do you want to have a pure relationship with God? Read on Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

From this story, we saw that the widow put in two coins, which was her everything, into the temple treasury. Jesus said that she did this “out of poverty”, or a hope that such an act would give her life above the poverty line. Regardless of other motives of her, she had already shown us what is true love. The love that is unconditional, not thinking of personal interests, and a sacrificial love that can only be made probably once in a lifetime. By saying this is once in a lifetime, I mean when you have accumulated a certain amount of money and wealth, are you willing to give them all away, as a demonstration of your love to God? I mean, are you prepared to risk your comfort zone, your worldly status, and power, and give everything of yours away for God, just to show Him how you love Him, and how you do it in one go?

Today was a normal working day, in which I was relatively busy in the morning. I ate some noodles for lunch and then slept for a while in office. Then in the afternoon while I was working, I started to think of one of my friends, an elder of a Christian Church who had been studying Bible with me once a week. He had an eventful life: He once was an entrepreneur and had studied a Theology degree. He just told me last week that He had a new job, and only 2 days ago I knew that his new job was a security guard working from 8am to 8pm. I then had this thought, am I willing to forego my comfort zone, my current job as an Accountant Assistant, to follow Jesus to do God’s will? Please read Matthew 8:18-20

When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

By following Jesus, we can expect to be homeless, even Jesus as the Son of Man had no place to lay his head. And when Jesus chose His 12 apostles, He sent them out and told them to take with them only the basic things, and not to be tempted by making money from performing miracles or healing. And He again warned them that they may need to walk the cross, following the example of Jesus, and had to suffer and be persecuted for God’s sake. So it is a difficult life if we follow Jesus and went through the narrow road. I could not be an apostle and work for God spreading the Bible, but how can I love God? And in what way? Please read Matthew 22:37

“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”

Going back to my afternoon today, after having read the above Scriptures, I then had a thought hanging on my mind, “Now is the time to give everything to God, now is the perfect time for me to forgo my job and probably lose everything I may have, just to show God that I love Him so much.” I wasn’t thinking about what rewards I will have in the Kingdom of God, I wasn’t thinking about whether I will have provisions or savings  for my future life, I wasn’t thinking about whether I will have to continue my life as a poor man, the only thing I am thinking is: “Now is the right time, and once in a lifetime opportunity to show God that I can sacrifice everything, for LOVE“. This particular instinct of mine had given me the perfect timing, and I knew that if I didn’t do it today, I may have lost such opportunity and may never come up again. I then made the DECISION, which will give myself a lifetime of pride and happiness, after only one minute’s thought. And for the next 30 minutes, I was thinking the same thing and I told myself, that’s it, I am not going to change my mind again. I am going to do it. I am willing to do it if it means giving everything away.

The proudest thing of my life is this, today. I did not think for myself, I wasn’t thinking about worldly possessions and wealth, all I am thinking is the “Love”, the Pure love that I have with God, without considering anything, or everything that might affect myself. And I made a “Pure” decision, and one in which I will never regret, and act as an anniversary celebratory moment, privately between me and God, on this day: 10.5.2018. My “Time” is today. When’s yours?

The Journey: Decision based on Will

Business man with lots of choices

This blog post will talk about making decisions based on worldly considerations or on the Will of God. This week I have been thinking of a decision, should I be working full time, in which I can earn more for a possible rainy day, have more money for health coverage and retirement, or part-time, in which I can spend more time to study the Bible and know more about God?

Before making a decision, most people use the world-based method, that is to consider all the advantages and disadvantages of this decision: Will the decision make me happier or richer? Can it offer me more joy and more returns for me? This is a self-decision, a decision-making process which focuses on the things I will get for a “yes” decision. In other words, decisions are made based on the system of the world, and we make decisions to try to adapt ourself and try to squeeze every advantage to ourselves in the real world. However, on a logical and humanly point of view, even after balancing all the advantages or disadvantages, such a decision may not be the best for us. For example, who would have guessed that there would be a market crash during the housing bubble in 2008? Even I had considered all the criteria and there pointed to a “go” to buy a house at that time, was it the best plan for me? Financially, it would be a disaster, and your family relationship will be hit also. So we use all our worldly considerations to adjust ourself to the world, but we find that we cannot be smarter than the world, but rather, we lose sight on what is “the best plan” for us.

We have to know that only God, can provide us with the best plan scenario for our big and difficult decision. Only He knows the best plan for us, only he can give us direction in order to walk the best path, and only He is kind enough to be willing to share it with us. So it is important for us to make a decision based on our understanding of God’s will and not on our petty evaluations of this decision. And how and what are we supposed to do to seek His will on a particular decision? Read the following verse from Luke 6:12-13

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.”

Form this verse, we can see that Jesus spent a lot of time praying before he chose his twelve disciples to learn and witness with him. We cannot be sure how God communicated to him on how to choose the 12 apostles, but one thing for sure is that He had revealed His will and His views on who would best serve Jesus and Him. Therefore, we can see that even Jesus, who was so wise, also needed to pray to find out and confirm what God wanted him to do. Knowing what God wanted us to do is thus knowing of His best plan for us. But sometimes, we may not be 100% approved of His will, to be our best decision. We just have to trust Him. Please take a look at another beautiful verse from Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

What this verse says is that when you pray to Him on making a decision, trust in Him that He will give you guidance on answers from your prayers, with your heart, and not to lean on your own understanding of the bits and pieces of the world. What this says is that when you seek His will, He will show you your path, which might be different from the path of the world. And trust that God loves you, His will is His best plan for you, in the real world. Just remember to follow Jesus’s teaching and his Ten Commandments, then you will realize and walk His best plan for yourself. Take a look at the following verse in Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

It explains that if you are sincere in asking God, through prayers, earnestly seek his guidance, and wholeheartedly knock on His door, He will answer you, He will give you guidance and He will tell you His Will. I think this is the foremost and most important way of making a decision.

To conclude, we are not anymore making decisions for ourselves, after knowing the Bible, but are actually making decisions based on God’s decision on ourselves. We are no longer thinking of the advantages or disadvantages that are implied in our decision, in which in my case is it advantageous to me such that I should spend more time working? But it is more about if He thinks this is the best plan for myself, and on the other hand, if He “needs” me to earn the extra dime so that I can preach the Gospel for Him full time in the future. Similarly, I may be thinking of spending more time to know the Gospel better so I should work part-time, but ultimately, it is His wisdom that tells us the best solution for a particular solution. If it’s God will, it’s the best. And it is because He loves us, and we are all a loving puzzle in His big picture, and so He tells us how to put our puzzle at the right place, at the right time, and in the right way, so that we can lead a happy life for Him, and His church on earth.
